About the Course

This course is designed to provide Core of Competence training for diagnostic radiographers to act as Radiation Protection Supervisors. It is also beneficial to Radiology Managers who have overall responsibility for the management of radiation protection in their departments.

Module 1 of the course aims to provide basic radiation protection training and is aimed at all staff involved with diagnostic radiology.

The Course follows the Health & Safety Executive’s syllabus for Radiation Protection Supervisors and covers the requirements of the IRR99 and IR(ME)R 2000 regulations as well as other legislation and guidance. It also provides practical training for staff that are responsible for quality assurance measurements on all types of X-ray equipment.

Module 1 takes place on Thursday 24th April at The Royal Institute of Architects (RIBA), London. It provides basic training in radiation protection which is a mandatory requirement for all staff in diagnostic radiology. This forms Part 1 of the Core of Competence for RPSs.

Module 2 takes place on Friday 5th at RIBA and the morning of Saturday 6th at The London Clinic, Devonshire Street. Module 2 is dedicated to lectures and group problem-solving sessions on issues related to the management of radiation protection and forms Part 2 of the Core of Competence. The Saturday (part of Module 2)) covers quality assurance testing of X-ray equipment and involves practical sessions in small groups.

Delegates must attend Modules 1 & 2 to gain certification as a Radiation Protection Supervisor. Delegates attending Module 1 will be certificated in Basic Radiation Protection. The course is always friendly and informal which creates an ideal learning environment. Please note that it is not possible to attend Module 2 only.

We use RPC Handbooks for Diagnostic Radiology as a reference within the training of this course, although not a requirement, you may find it useful to purchase the handbooks in advance or after the course to assist your department as a guideline for future Quality Assurance testing.. (See attached flyer for details)....

Please note that VAT is not charged on our handbooks

This is a non-residential course, however, we can provide a list of local hotels along with a booking form.  All accommodation bookings must be arranged separately and do not form part of the course booking.
