Safe Use of Medical Lasers
About the CourseAs the range and uses of lasers in surgery increases so does the need for training in laser safety. The safe use of lasers is at present governed by voluntary guidance from the Department of Health and, for independent healthcare providers, by the Care Standards Act 2000 national minimum standards and regulations. A proposed European Directive on Optical Radiation may result in a new legal framework in the future. This course is for all those working with surgical and cosmetic lasers. It is suitable for clinicians, therapists, nurses, technicians, trainee medical physicists and for others with an interest in the safe operation of lasers. It will be of special interest to those staff who are designated as, or wish to become, Laser Protection Supervisors. It covers the Core of Knowledge in the latest edition of Guidance on the Safe Use of Lasers in Medical and Dental Practice published by the MDA/MHRA of the Department of Health. Course notes and a certificate of attendance are provided. Course Contents
